Blast Camps are fun, week-long camps in which students experience musical theatre performance. They build confidence by rehearsing a short script written specifically for RMT, and they perform at the end of the week in front of a supportive community of family and friends. In preparing for a performance, students learn discipline and memorization skills that they can take with them to their scholastic work.

This Week’s Script is Penny Lane.  Jude has to move to a brand new town with the oddest name – Penny Lane – and he is totally NOT into it.  When his parents force him to meet some of the towns interesting characters (a Barber, a Banker, a Fireman, and a Nurse), he learns that if he just gives them a chance, he can get by with a little help from his friends.  Penny Lane uses favorite Beetles hits in an original story.

Kid Friendly Breweries in Birmingham

It’s no secret that the Birmingham Brewery Scene is having its moment and we are here for it! What we love most is that many of them have created a very family friendly atmosphere, offering up yard games, green spaces and plenty of room for the kids (and furry friends) to run and play. So when the weather is nice, it’s no wonder you will see a lot of our local breweries packed with Birmingham families out enjoying a relaxing afternoon.

It should go without saying that you should use your best judgment when taking children to a brewery, know your limits, drink in moderation and remember that it is first and foremost a drinking establishment and while it might be fun for an afternoon hangout, more adults will show up in the evening hours and it will become more of an adult hotspot.

Here are some of our favorite family friendly breweries in and around Birmingham!

Back 40 Beer Company
3201 1st Ave North | Birmingham

We love the feel of sitting on our back porch rocking in our rocking chair while watching the kids run around the backyard and that’s exactly the vibe you get at Back 40. Great food from the Back 40 kitchen (griddle dog, YUMM-O)(kids menu available!) up to 25 beers on tap and plenty of space for the kids to run or play corn hole. Four legged furry kids are most welcome.

Website

Monday Night Brewing
14 12th Street South | Birmingham

While they don’t have a big yard for running around, they do have a pretty cool space that we think kids will dig… What kid doesn’t love dinosaurs and a big Connect4 game they can play on a patio? Monday Night offers up a tasty Mexican menu WITH kids options… Score!

Website

Ferus Artisan Ales
101 Beech Street | Trussville

Enjoy a local IPA and fresh air at the outside pavilion at Ferus Artisan Ales, the anchor establishment of Trussville’s new entertainment district. Drink a flavored stout at the outside bar or take it to a picnic table while you watch the kids play tag on the green space. Grab some chef-curated eats from the full-menu restaurant including a “cub” menu with a junior smash burger, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese. Finish up with a family-shareable s’mores dip for dessert. Watch sports on the jumbo screen or catch a live concert on the pavilion stage. Pets on leashes are allowed in the outdoor area so bring your furry family members, too!

All ages are welcome at these upcoming free events:

Trussville Makers Market | May 1, 2022 | 12-4 p.m.
Sunday Showcase | May 1, 2022 | 1-5:30 p.m.

Website

Brock’s Gap Brewing
500 Mineral Trace | Hoover

One of the newest Breweries in town, we instantly fell in love with Brock’s Gap! This space is nothing short of AH-Mazing! TONS of outdoor space for the kiddos to play cornhole, and to run and just be kids. If you love sitting outside on a beautiful day, you will love this brewery. Bonus! If your kids play sports at the Hoover Met or Finley Center, Brock’s Gap is right next door. While they don’t have a kitchen they do offer up food trucks. You can follow their Facebook page for a schedule.

Website

Ghost Train Brewing
3501 1st Ave South | Birmingham

Ghost Train has a new location with a backyard and patio you’re never going to want to leave! Hammocks for lounging, and plenty of space to twirl in the grassy yard that connects to the Hugh Kaul Trail where you can watch the bikers and walkers as they pass.

Website

Avondale Brewing
201 41st Street South | Birmingham

One of the OG Breweries in the Magic City, Avondale never disappoints. What’s not to love about a confined grassy area where the tiny humans can let loose? Home to lots of great live music, delicious brews, food trucks and fun events.

All Ages welcome at these upcoming events:

Funky Fish Fry | April 9th, 2022 | 11:30am
Darter Festival | April 10th, 2022 | 12-5pm

Keep in mind that most of our local breweries offer up a family friendly atmosphere, these are just a few of the spots we frequent, do you love one we didn’t mention? Share in the comments so we can be sure to check them out too!

7 U-Pick Berry Farms Near Birmingham

Here in Alabama, we have a wonderful moderate Spring season that you should enjoy to the fullest!  Get the kids and get out!  A fun and unique activity is to go to a you-pick-your-own farm.  You get fresh air, the kids get a new activity that will not bore them, it can be educational, and it can yield some yummy foods for dinner that night!  A lot of the farms aren’t open until June, but there are some that start in April with fresh strawberries, YUM! Strawberries have a very brief season; and they start in early April here in the South. Happy Picking!
