It’s here, People!! Summer is finally here. Are you wondering what to do to keep the kiddos busy this summer, or are you just looking for new ways to explore our fine city and create a Staycation right here in the ‘Ham? Well, look no further, here are some of our top recommended must-dos for your 2016, Summer O’ Fun!

Check out the new Rotary Trail! In case you’ve missed it.. Downtown Birmingham is booming! The Rotary Trail is considered to be an extension of Railroad Park, and runs along First Avenue South from 20th Street to 24th Street. The trail follows a “railroad cut” through downtown Birmingham and includes walking paths, benches, landscaping, lighting, boardwalks, an amphitheater and more!

Hit the Drive In! The brand new Coyote Drive in is open and it is awesome! With 4 movie screens, an indoor/outdoor restaurant, kids play area, live music on the weekends and more, it’s everything you need for a great family night out! Conveniently located at the Outlet Shops of Grand River, so you can shop a little, then sit back, relax and enjoy a movie!

Check out a local Farmers Market or U-Pick ‘Em – Summertime just screams fresh fruits and veggies.. No matter where you live in Birmingham, there is a farmers market close to you. If getting the kids involved in the picking process sounds fun, there are lots of options for picking blueberries and strawberries just a short drive from the ‘ham.

Hit the Ball Park – I know we’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating.. If you haven’t made it down to check out Regions Field and see the Barons Play.. You’re truly missing out. There’s more to do in the area now than ever.. Food, Breweries, Railroad park and of course, Regions Park alone is amazing.

Slide the City! Something we’ve never been able to mention before is coming to Birmingham for the first time ever. A record breaking waterslide will take over the streets of Vestavia this June for 1 day only. Bring your friends and your kids.. You won’t want to miss out on this action!

Visit Vulcan! He’s a Birmingham Staple and just so happens to have a Birthday celebration coming up on June 5th. Whether your there to sing happy birthday or just make it up there later this summer, it’s worth a trip. Make sure to get the scavenger hunt sheet for the kids when you get there, it gives them a fun little task to complete around the park and in the museum.

Take a Hike! Birmingham is filled with amazing opportunity for hiking and adventures. From Ruffner Mountain Nature Center to Red Mountain Park and their ziplining, and ropes courses.. If hiking and water adventure is your thing, check out Oak Mountain State park with their paddleboats, Paddleboards or just lay on the beach. Plenty to do if you want to spend a day enjoying nature.

Jump Jump Jump! Steep City Jump Park is an indoor trampoline park with open jump times, basketball dunking, dodgeball and a foam pit. Perfect for those hot summer days when you’re looking to beat the heat!

Rock On! Birmingham’s premier rock climbing facility located in the heart of downtown has a little something to offer everyone, kids included!

Take a Float Down the Cahaba – The perfect way to spend a hot summer day. Located southwest of Birmingham offering a popular stretch for tubers beginning near Limestone Parkway in Brierfield. Characterized by rocky shoals punctuated with pools and ledge drops of 3 feet or less, it is advisable to strap the top on to your cooler to prevent food from escaping while navigating the drops. McGuire’s Ford is a favorite swimming hole midway through the 6.7-mile run, which offers a convenient exit at Bulldog Bend.
