How Parents Can Identify Possible Poison Exposures.

Children’s of Alabama wants to help parents learn about the dangers that may be lurking in their yard or even in their kitchen cabinets. The Alabama Poison Information Center at Children’s of Alabama recently updated its popular Poison Perils of Alabama app. The app first launched in March of 2020.

“The app talks about different toxic substances, whether it is household products or if it’s a venomous animal, sting, bite or a toxic plant,” said Becky DeVore, an educator with the Alabama Poison Information Center.

DeVore says the Alabama Poison Information Center receives thousands of calls each year from concerned parents about possible poison exposures. This app provides users with a detailed description of animals, plants, and the most common household items the hotline receives calls about. In addition to the description, there are also pictures. If there is an emergency, users can also connect to the Alabama Poison Information Center with the touch of a button. Since its’ release, APIC has been working to make the app more user-friendly and educational. This includes a 10-question quiz that can now be accessed on tablets.

“The goal of this app is to educate parents, grandparents, caregivers, and teachers about things that we do get calls on every day in the center,” said DeVore.

The Poison Perils App of Alabama is available for free on both Apple and Android devices.

Let your kids become the lunchtime architects and watch their creativity soar!

Dippable Delights!
Ditch the boring and embrace the dippable! Fill those lunchboxes with a vibrant array of fresh-cut veggies, such as carrot sticks, cucumber slices, and colorful bell pepper strips. Add some crunchy pita chips or whole-grain crackers for an extra treat.
