LEGO Fans!! The Roadshow Americana is coming to Birmingham! Check out the Riverchase Galleria this weekend for LEGO replicas of some of our nation’s most beloved landmarks. The Birmingham Barons will be back home next week and storytimes are starting to pick back up around town.

Saturday August 22nd:

The LEGO American Road Show – Riverchase Galleria
Riverchase Galleria will host THE LEGO® Americana Roadshow, a highly visual, educational and free traveling installation of larger than life LEGO replicas of some of our nation’s most beloved landmarks. Ten one-of-a-kind, large scale models of American Landmarks made completely out of LEGO bricks by LEGO Master Builders – including the U.S. Capitol Building, White House, Supreme Court, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and Old North Church – take over Riverchase Galleria and entertain customers with stunning visuals and fun facts.

ADDITIONAL ON-SITE VISUALS AND ACTIVITIES:

LEGO Brick Play Area: Children of all ages can build whatever their imaginations dream up

Virtual Interactivity: Download the LEGO Connect app and watch time-lapse video of the building process for a handful of the LEGO landmarks right in the mall.

Storytime with Books a Million – Birmingham Zoo
The Birmingham Zoo invites you and your family to enjoy story time hosted by Books-A-Million! This event is free with admission. Guests will enjoy hearing an animal-themed story and creating a themed craft. Story time at the Zoo is a fun, educational experience you won’t want to miss!

Fairy Tale Ball, Presented by Childcare Resources – Cahaba Grand Ball Room
YOU’RE INVITED TO AN EVENING GALA FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY… the 2015 Fairy Tale Ball, which features a live dance band, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, adult and children’s beverages, a “candy bar” and interactive entertainment.  You and your family will delight in fairy tale characters, and whimsical entertainers. The setting for this year’s gala is the Cahaba Grand Ballroom.

Guests of all ages can enjoy a formal night out that includes fairy land activities and a silent auction, which features locally donated items, services, sports tickets and vacation packages. Presented by the Junior Board of Childcare Resources, Fairy Tale Ball proceeds benefit the programs and services offered to the community by the agency. Entertain your family while supporting other children and their families served by Childcare Resources!
Family ticket – admits four (up to 2 adults per family) $175 until July 1st; $200 beginning July 1st
Child ticket – admits one additional child (12 years of age and younger) $20.00
Adult ticket – admits one adult (13 years of age and older) $90.00

Inspired by a work from its current exhibition, Black Like Who?: Exploring Race and Representation, the BMA is pleased to present “Hip-Hop You Don’t Stop,” a daylong celebration of the history and power of hip-hop music.

Birmingham Zoo:

The Birmingham Zoo offers a variety of daily activities from Giraffe and Pelican Feedings to Bird Tours and Lion Training. For a daily schedule of whats happening at the Zoo, visit their site.

Vulcan Park and Museum:

Vulcan is the world’s largest cast iron statue; made of 100,000 pounds of iron and 56 feet tall, he stands at the top of Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. But, Vulcan is more than a statue. Vulcan Park and Museum features spectacular views of Birmingham, an interactive history museum that examines Vulcan and Birmingham’s story, and a beautiful public park for visitors and locals to enjoy. With an official information center that is operated by the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vulcan Park and Museum serves as the first stop for visitors to the Birmingham area!

Railroad Park:

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of our great city. Situated along 1st Avenue South, between 14th and 18th Streets, the park is a joint effort between the City of Birmingham and the Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as “Birmingham’s Living Room,” Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts, and cultural events, while connecting Birmingham’s downtown area with Southside and UAB’s campus.

Southern Museum of Flight:

Earn Your Wings – Bring your little pilot and soar above the clouds in our little pilots room. Kids enjoy building aircrafts, flying kites, and more.
