Stay Awake at Birmingham Children’s Theatre

If your toddler loves a good bedtime story, Birmingham Children’s Theatre has something special coming to its PlaySpace stage this September — and it might just be their first taste of live theatre.

Stay Awake, written by Mary Hall Surface and directed by Mason Elizabeth Greer, follows young Mia and her dog on a journey through Dreamland, where the nightly bedtime routine gets flipped completely upside down. Through rhyme and playful repetition, the show introduces shapes and sounds — all wrapped up in a story that asks: what if bedtime was the best adventure of the day?

This is part of BCT’s Theatre for the Very Young series, made specifically for the wiggling, giggling, not-sitting-still crowd. No shushing required — if your toddler needs to move, make noise, or react out loud, that’s not just okay, it’s expected.
