Pills or Candy, Can You Tell the Difference?

We saw a graphic a while back on a visit to Children’s Hospital. It showed the amazing resemblance there is between pills and some of your child’s favorite candy.  It’s truly amazing how similar some medicines are to the candy that your kids know and crave.

Reports document a rising number of pharmaceutical poisonings of kids, usually when they mistakenly consume the medicines. Narcotic painkillers, sleeping pills and diabetes pills are among the drugs that pose the highest risks.

“Even small amounts of medicine can cause overdose-type problems” in children, Dr. Gittelman, of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital says. All medicines should be kept out of the reach of children.

This got us thinking, how would we fair in a little pop quiz? Would we, as adults, have as much trouble distinguishing the pills from candy? Believe it or not, we did. On levels 1 and 2 we scored a 90% when we got to level 3, it dropped to 50%
