- Exploring Natural Alabama presents Bald Eagles: Turtles are on the Menu
Alabama Wildlife Center at Oak Mountain State Park
Andrew Coleman-Birmingham Audubon Science and Program Director, Guest Speaker. Complimentary refreshments are offered at 1:30 pm in the Alabama Wildlife Center observation room followed by the program at 2:00 pm in the AWC auditorium. The recovery of the Bald Eagle from near extinction is one of the United States’ greatest conservation success stories, and that recovery has been evident in Alabama. This state has witnessed the exponential increase in mating pairs from zero in the mid-1980’s to over 200 today, and further research is needed. Andrew will discuss the resurgence of eagles in Alabama and their intriguing ecological relationship with turtles. Weather permitting, an informal nature walk follows the program so be sure to bring your camera, binoculars & field guides.
Note that while the program is free, admission to Oak Mountain State Park is $5/adults, $2 for children (4–11) and seniors (62+).
