Friday Five: Top Picks for Weekend Fun July 20th – July 22nd

Only a few precious summer weekends left… How will you spend them? We have some ideas to keep you and tiny humans busy!

  • Family Fun Friday at Railroad Park

Get the entire family on track to better health with this fun hour of low to high impact activity designed to promote exercise for all ages. Families are invited to enjoy team activities like kickball, soccer or wiffle ball. Each class will begin with a warm up and light stretching, followed by the game of the week. In addition to providing physical benefits, Family Fun Friday also provides mental health benefits and social interaction for the entire family.

Friday, 6pm – 7pm

  • Summer Star Party at McWane

Join us on the parking deck roof for a free star gazing party with the Birmingham Astronomical Society. Identify the summer constellations, and catch a glimpse of the July half-moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The astronomical fun begins at 9pm.

  • Float your Boat Summer Festival at Turkey Creek

The Friends of Turkey Creek Nature Preserve are pleased to announce that the ninth annual Float Your Boat Festival. Float Your Boat offers a fun-filled day at the Preserve that features balsa wood boat races with prizes, the City of Pinson’s “Beat the Heat” ice cream give-away, food, swimming and a fun zone for kids.  Last year more than 2,000 people attended the event, and this year promises to be even more successful and fun for the entire family.  The festivities will kick off with the family fun zone opening at 10:00 am and boat races starting at noon.

Tickets $7 – $15. Fans can choose from three different reserved seating sections. Dugout Premium seats located behind the Barons dugout on the first base side, Field Reserved seats located behind home plate and the visiting dugout and Baseline Box seats located on the first and third base lines.

General Admission seats remain the same price as in recent years with adult tickets available for $7.00. Children (12-years and younger), seniors (60 years and older) and members of the military receive $1.00 discounts on the listed prices for all reserved and general admission seats. General Admission seating is located in the right field bleachers and the berm seating areas.

  • Zoo Fun Days at the Birmingham Zoo

Visit the Zoo during Zoo Fun Days to take advantage of discounted admission – $5 off all admission tickets! Guests will have the opportunity to get up-close with the elephants in Trails of Africa, experience Predator Zone, enjoy a Red Diamond Sea Lion Show and be surrounded by and feed* beautiful lorikeets in the Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary. Come learn how the Zoo uses enrichment activities to help keep the animals mentally and physically fit. Guests can also see live animal demonstrations, feedings, chat with the keepers and more! *Additional cost.
