The Friends of Turkey Creek Nature Preserve are pleased to announce that the eighth annual Float Your Boat Festival will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 10 am – 4 pm. Float Your Boat offers a fun-filled day at the Preserve that features balsa wood boat races with prizes, the City of Pinson’s “Beat the Heat” ice cream give-away, food, swimming and a fun zone for kids. Last year more than 2,000 people attended the event, and this year promises to be even more successful and fun for the entire family. The festivities will kick off with the family fun zone opening at 10:00 am and boat races starting at noon.
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve (TCNP) contains some of the most biologically diverse habitats in this region of Alabama. The waters of Turkey Creek are home to three endangered species of fish: the Vermilion Darter, the Watercress Darter, and the Rush Darter. The Vermilion Darter lives only in Turkey Creek and nowhere else in the world. Admission is free and all donations or other proceeds from the Festival benefit TCNP’s environmental education, youth outreach, and habitat preservation programs.
