Prince of Peace Catholic School is hosting their 3rd annual Christmas in November craft and gift sale this Saturday, November 14th, from 8 am – 5 pm.
Vendors will be selling a variety of items including Christmas decorations, children’s clothing, monogramming, jewelry, candles, homeade jams, marinades, little girl tutu’s and much more.
Admission is free. Lunch and snacks will also be served. Prince of Peace is located at 4650 Preserve Parkway, Hoover, AL.
Today we have a special edition of our monthly segment Droolicious Cuisine. This recipe is borrowed from a famous Tuscaloosa restaurant that features these “to die for” muffins. The beauty of this recipe is that, while it makes a ton, you can keep the batter in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. So, you can just scoop out a few muffins if you’re headed to brunch, entertaining guests, or just want a yummy way to start the day!
Refrigerator Bran Muffins:
1 – 15 oz box Raisin Bran Cereal
3 c. sugar
5 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp salt
4 eggs
1 c. vegetable oil
1 qt. buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix dry ingredients in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Mix well. Fill mini-muffin tins 2/3 full. Bake for 10-12 minutes. *Batter will last up to 2 weeks in refrigerator.
It’s getting cold outside but you don’t have to stop having water fun! Wilderness at the Smokies has a new indoor raft ride open, Runaway Canyon. By day you can splash and play in the indoor area with natural sunlight, and by night you can do some fantastic holiday shopping in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg! It’s the best of both worlds!
Got a sweet tooth? Well put that baby to work! Join vendors from the Birmingham area as they donate profits of certain “sweet” items to the “Sweet on a Cure” event, benefiting the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Going on now through November 15, patrons can visit any of the participating vendors and 100% of the profit of the chosen item goes to UAB cancer research.
Among the participating businesses are Another Broken Egg Café; Ashley Mac’s; Bellini’s Ristorante & Bar; The Bright Star; Bongiorno Italian Restaurant; Café Dupont; Chappy’s Deli; DeVinci’s of Homewood; Dyron’s Lowcountry; Edgar’s Bakery; Hot and Hot Fish Club; Irondale Café; Joe’s Italian Pizza, Pasta & Caffé; Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q; Nabeel’s Café & Market; O’Henry’s Coffees; Rojo; Soho Sweets; Smith’s Oysters & Steaks; The Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill in Hoover; The Redmont Café; and Tracy’s.
“In an economic climate in which competition for federal and state funding is intense, scientists are increasingly faced with difficulty in maintaining world-class translational research,” says UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Edward Partridge, M.D. “Community support for research is critical to the discovery of new treatments and cutting-edge therapies.”

Finally, a reusable bag program that we can take advantage of here in Birmingham. I know that Kroger has been doing this for a while and it was only a matter of time before other stores and retailers caught on to this great incentive program.
As of November first, Target and CVS will offer customers a rebate for bringing in and using their own shopping bags. Target will offer a .5 cent discount for every saved bag.
CVS will work a little different, offering only to the participating customers in the ExtraCare program. CVS customers will also need to purchase their .99 cent “green tea bag.” Then every time you shop at CVS using their bag, or no bag at all you can swipe your EC Card and for every 4 swipes receive a $1 coupon on the bottom of your receipt for your next visit.
Finally a little incentive to remember those bags… Now if only Publix would get on board, I would really be saving some dough!
