4th of July Weekend – Birmingham Zoo
The Birmingham Zoo invites families and friends to come out and join in all the fun the Zoo has to offer over the Fourth of July holiday. In honor of this holiday, the Zoo is giving FREE admission to veterans as well as all active and retired military and their dependents. Bring your proof of military service (military ID card, dependent ID card, driver’s license, etc.) to take part in all the fun the Zoo has to offer. On July 4th, the Zoo will celebrate the 10th birthday of the red river hogs, Star, Spangle and Banner! While you’re here, feed the lorikeets in the Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary*, take a ride on the Jane H. Brock Soaring Safari Zipline Adventure*, ride the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Wild Slide*, watch the Red Diamond Sea Lion Splash Show and much more!

Celebrate the Fourth of July with us and receive $4 off admission price for Adventure Halls and Combo tickets. We’ll have some exciting Independence Day themed educational programs going on throughout the day, so don’t miss out! Our hours on the 4th are from 9 AM-6 PM.

Come down to the library to learn the latest dance moves with M.A.D Skillz Dance Company. Dance is a great way to exercise and lots of fun at the same time. Learn to move and groove and have lots of fun. Target audience: teens.

Friday July 8th:

Party on The Porch – Alabama Outdoors
Join us for our third Party on the Porch event of the summer benefiting the Freshwater Land Trust–a local nonprofit organization whose mission is the acquisition and stewardship of lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space.

We will have live music from local band, the Jason Bailey Trio, delicious food from Cantina on Wheels and refreshing local draft beer from Avondale Brewing Company, available in a $10 collectible cup!

Bendy’s Cookies & Cream will be joining us with delicious homemade ice cream, cookies, and made-to-order ice cream sandwiches!

We will also be raffling away awesome items from The North Face, as well as TWO general admission passes to Sloss Music & Arts Festival! Drop your name in our raffle box at Party on the Porch, and you will automatically be entered for a chance to win. Winner will be announced at 7:15PM—you must be present to win!

Invite your friends to Party on the Porch, we had so much fun last time and hope to see you again! Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome!

Railfest – Railroad Park
RailFest will be hosted by RailSmart, a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the public on the importance of rail transport and rail safety in our communities. RailFest will feature Birmingham’s best food vendors, a RailKids fun zone, as well as showcase local musicians and small businesses– an experience guaranteed to bring our community together for a summer evening of fellowship, friends, and fun in beautiful Birmingham.

Family Yoga in the Garden – Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Enjoy this unique opportunity for healthy fun with the family in the gardens of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This energetic class will incorporate individual and partner yoga poses for strength and balance, plus breathing exercises to help foster calm and focus. Our garden inspired crafts will assist in cooling the mind and body.

Birmingham Zoo:

The Birmingham Zoo offers a variety of daily activities from Giraffe and Pelican Feedings to Bird Tours and Lion Training. For a daily schedule of whats happening at the Zoo, visit their site.

Vulcan Park and Museum:

Vulcan is the world’s largest cast iron statue; made of 100,000 pounds of iron and 56 feet tall, he stands at the top of Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. But, Vulcan is more than a statue. Vulcan Park and Museum features spectacular views of Birmingham, an interactive history museum that examines Vulcan and Birmingham’s story, and a beautiful public park for visitors and locals to enjoy. With an official information center that is operated by the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vulcan Park and Museum serves as the first stop for visitors to the Birmingham area!

Railroad Park:

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of our great city. Situated along 1st Avenue South, between 14th and 18th Streets, the park is a joint effort between the City of Birmingham and the Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as “Birmingham’s Living Room,” Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts, and cultural events, while connecting Birmingham’s downtown area with Southside and UAB’s campus.

Southern Museum of Flight:

Earn Your Wings – Bring your little pilot and soar above the clouds in our little pilots room. Kids enjoy building aircrafts, flying kites, and more.
