Getting dressed up and trick or treating always makes for a fun night and we all want to keep our little monsters safe, so as you get everyone ready keep these safety tips in mind!
- Plan a safe route so parents know where their older kids will be at all times. Set a time for their return home. Make sure that your child is old enough and responsible enough to go out by themselves and if they are make sure that they have a cell phone.
- Wear bright reflective costumes or have glow sticks or necklaces on to make yourself more visible.
- Parents should always accompany their young children and carry a flashlight.
- Make sure costumes fit properly and vision is not obstructed.
- Be careful crossing the street. Make sure to look in both directions and make sure that there are no cars coming. If the street has a stop light, wait until the cross walk light tells you that it’s okay to cross, but still check before you cross, look both ways.
- Have an adult carefully examine all treats. Do not consume unwrapped treats or those that appear to have been tampered with.
- Children should never go to a stranger’s home unless accompanied by an adult.
- Teens going out with friends should make sure their parents know where they will be and who they will be with.
- If you are driving, be aware of little ones and slow down.
