Birmingham Events Calendar: March 20th – March 27th

Spring break is getting close, here are a few events to keep you busy while you wait! Have a Happy Easter!

It’s Not Our Fault if Your Kids are Bored!

Sunday March 20th:

American Girl Girls Just Like Me: Rainforest Adventure with Lea Clark – Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Travel to the Amazon Rainforest and discover a delicate ecosystem home to the sloth, blue morpho butterfly, poison dart frog, cacao, vanilla, and cinnamon. The exciting story of American Girl of the Year, Lea Clark, encourages us to be explorers of the rainforest right here in our Conservatory. Join us for an afternoon that will spark your spirit of learning and adventure as we explore Lea’s story and create a beautiful blue morpho butterfly.
2:00pm – 4pm

Tannehill Trade Days – Tannehill State Park
Shoppers and swappers come from far and near to Tannehill Trade Days in search of tools, clothing, jewelry, knives, furniture and other treasures.
Park admission:
$4.00 Adults (12 years and older)
$3.00 Seniors (Ages 62 and older)
$2.00 Children (Ages 6-11) ages 5 and under free

Monday March 21st:

Toddler Tales – North Shelby Library
Stories, songs, fingerplays and crafts make up a lively 30 minute program designed especially for short attention spans. Registration will begin one week prior to each storytime. Ages 19-36 months. Registration Required.

Tuesday March 22nd:

LibraryFlix – Homewood Public Library
Popcorn and refreshments served. Located in the Large Auditorium.

Based on Jane Austen’s novel, sparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennet meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice?

Shamrocks, Leprechauns, and Danny Boy Ireland with Niki Sepsas – Homewood Public Library
Join us as Niki Sepsas discusses the legendary tales and majestic landscapes along the epic coast of the island of Ireland. With cities like Dublin founded by Vikings, the lush green countryside, towns buzzing with traditional pubs, Ireland is the home to some of the friendliest locals on the planet. Learn about the culture and the country of the Emerald Isle.

Baby Tales – North Shelby Library
A story time designed especially for babies and their caregivers. Stories and music provide interaction for the babies and time for caregivers to talk and share with each other.  Ages: Birth to 18 months.  Registration Required.  Registration will begin one week prior to program date.

When Spring Comes Storytime – Barnes and Noble Summit
Spring is in the air … you can smell it, hear it and feel it – and you can read it! Join us to celebrate spring’s arrival featuring the title When Spring Comes. Activities will round out the fun.

Toddler Days – Steel City Jump Park
Story, snack and jumping! Parents jump for free, Children, $8.00. Parents free.

Come help us celebrate 75 years of service to the city of Homewood!  Be a part of this special evening filled with activities, entertainment, and fun for everyone.

Move and Groove Storytime – Homewood Public Library
Join us for an interactive and energetic movement storytime for all ages filled with dance, yoga, and fun!

Easter Eggstravaganza – Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest
We will be offering a variety of Easter themed activities for children ages 12 months to first grade including a live bunny “playground,” pictures with the Easter Bunny, prize eggs for everyone, and a craft and fun snack. There will be many photo opportunities, so don’t forget your camera! The program will be ongoing from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. to ensure plenty of time to enjoy all the fun in a non-competitive and relaxed atmosphere. Once again the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest offers a fun, free program for area families. Join us for some Easter fun!

Saturday March 26th:

Kori Bustard Day – Birmingham Zoo
This day will be celebrating the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the world. The Birmingham Zoo has one of the largest collections of Kori Bustards in the world and paves the way in chick raising techniques. Enjoy special Kori Bustard enrichments, a feeding, children’s activities and more! See below for a schedule of the day’s activities.

Join us once a month for a marvelous mish-mash of musical magic!  We’ll look, listen, and learn as musicians from amateur to expert share their musical talents with us.

If you give a child a box, who knows what will happen next? It may become a library or a boat. It could set the scene for a fairy tale or a wild expedition. Join us for Storytime featuring What To Do With a Box.

Birmingham Zoo:

The Birmingham Zoo offers a variety of daily activities from Giraffe and Pelican Feedings to Bird Tours and Lion Training. For a daily schedule of whats happening at the Zoo, visit their site.

Vulcan Park and Museum:

Vulcan is the world’s largest cast iron statue; made of 100,000 pounds of iron and 56 feet tall, he stands at the top of Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. But, Vulcan is more than a statue. Vulcan Park and Museum features spectacular views of Birmingham, an interactive history museum that examines Vulcan and Birmingham’s story, and a beautiful public park for visitors and locals to enjoy. With an official information center that is operated by the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Vulcan Park and Museum serves as the first stop for visitors to the Birmingham area!

Railroad Park:

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of our great city. Situated along 1st Avenue South, between 14th and 18th Streets, the park is a joint effort between the City of Birmingham and the Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as “Birmingham’s Living Room,” Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts, and cultural events, while connecting Birmingham’s downtown area with Southside and UAB’s campus.

Southern Museum of Flight:

Earn Your Wings – Bring your little pilot and soar above the clouds in our little pilots room. Kids enjoy building aircrafts, flying kites, and more.
