Birmingham may be known for its food scene, football, and Southern hospitality… but after dark, the city has a much spookier side.
I recently joined US Ghost Adventures for a Ghost Tour through downtown Birmingham, with our guide, Clint, and it was the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season. We started in Linn Park before winding our way through downtown, stopping at historic landmarks that have more than a few ghostly stories to tell.
Even if you think you know Birmingham’s history- or already know the buildings that are notoriously haunted- you’ll probably learn something new. The tour blends fascinating local history with spooky tales that definitely make you wonder if the past is still lingering around us.
One of the stops that gave me chills was the Redmont Hotel. Built in the 1920s and beautifully renovated over the years, it’s one of Birmingham’s most iconic landmarks. But while the décor may have changed, one thing hasn’t: the spirits who still roam the halls. Guests have reported everything from luggage moving on its own to doors opening and closing, to the eerie whisper of a woman’s voice when no one is around.
The Redmont is also connected to country legend Hank Williams, Sr., who spent his last night alive at the hotel. Some say he never left. Guests have claimed to hear country-style guitar music with no clear source, and even spotted a shadowy figure in a cowboy hat. (Chills, right?)
What I loved about this tour is how interactive it was- you get the chance to ask questions, share your own stories, and maybe even leave with a few unexplainable experiences yourself. Even if you’re not a “ghost believer,” I think you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for Birmingham’s history… and maybe a little less certain about what goes bump in the night.
If you’re looking for something different to do this fall, the Ghost Tour of Birmingham is a fun, spooky way to get in the mood for Halloween. Just don’t be surprised if you leave with more questions than answers.

If you loved exploring Birmingham’s haunted history, you’ll be excited to know that US Ghost Adventures offers plenty of other tours across the country- including the infamous Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts. 👻
The Lizzie Borden House offers three unique daily tours (plus virtual options you can enjoy from home!), each giving a different perspective on the history, events, and home of the Borden family. During the daytime house tours, you can explore every room in the home, including the room where Abby Borden was murdered. In the evenings, their ghost tours take you out into town to visit other haunted spots nearby while hearing chilling stories of the unexplained.
