Winter Wake Up Hibernation Celebration at the Birmingham Zoo
Sunday, February 2, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
The Birmingham Zoo will be celebrating Groundhog Day in a new way this year! Join the Zoo on Sunday, February 2 from 9:00am until 2:00pm for Winter Wake-Up: A Hibernation Celebration. Guests will be treated to the first Wildlife Show of the year at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital Wildlife Stage featuring some of your favorite Zoo Ambassador animals.
Due to the Zoo’s resident groundhog Birmingham Bill going through hibernation, one of the Zoo’s Ambassador owls will be predicting this year’s weather outcome. After the Wildlife Show, guests will have the opportunity to interact with various animal education stations throughout the Zoo and listen to Keeper Chats about the different animals that hibernate. Come learn about Groundhog Day traditions from all over the world and find out if we’ll have six more weeks of winter!
The Zoo’s weather prediction will start at 10:00am and Keeper Chats will be held until 2:00pm. *Winter Wake-Up is a rain or shine event and festivities are included with the purchase of Zoo admission for the day.
