Homeschool Day at McWane

Is your child a home school student looking for a fun and educational way to spend the day? Plan a trip to McWane Science Center on Home School Day! There will be special programs, live science demonstrations, give-aways and a discounted ticket price: FREE for homeschool parents, $7 for kids, and $6 for accompanying adults.

Land & Sea Animals

9:00 am – 5:00 pm — Animals and the Environment (City Gallery, Level 2)
Stop by Science on a Sphere to learn how issues in the environment effect animals all over the world.

10:30 am — Little Lab: Natures Oxygen Tank (Itty Bitty Magic City- Classroom 202)
Conduct a hand-on experiment and learn why fish don’t wear oxygen tanks.  (Kindergarten and younger)

11:00 am — Design Challenge- Plankton Race (Workshop)
Sink or float? Create a model of a planktonic sea creature and test its buoyancy!

11:30 am — Animal Encounter (Naturescope)
Meet some of McWane’s fascinating animals!

12:30 pm — Larva Lab (Explore)
Get up close and personal with live beetle larva!

1:30 pm — Gulf Feeding (Ocean Journey)
Join us in World of Water for a feeding of our Gulf of Mexico Tank.

2:30 pm — Creatures of the Cahaba (World of Water)
Learn about the Cahaba River and the animals who call it home.

3:30 pm — Design Challenge- Plankton Race (Workshop)
