The Birmingham Brewery scene just keeps getting better, we now even have what’s considered a “Brewery Trial,” what’s even better is that many breweries in the area have created a family-friendly environment, complete with outdoor games, green spaces, and ample room for children and pets to run around and play. As a result, it’s no surprise that on pleasant days, local breweries are teeming with Birmingham families enjoying a leisurely afternoon.
Here’s a list of our favorite Birmingham Breweries that are great for a family outing!
Please keep in mind, when taking children to a brewery, you should exercise caution and make responsible decisions. Remember, it’s primarily a drinking establishment, and while it may be a fun hangout spot during the day, it may become more of an adult-oriented venue in the evening.
Brock’s Gap Brewing
500 Mineral Trace | Hoover

Quite possibly THE most kid friendly Brewery, in our opinion, This space is nothing short of AH-Mazing! TONS of outdoor space for the kiddos to play cornhole, and to run and just be kids. If you love sitting outside on a beautiful day, you will love this brewery. Bonus! If your kids play sports at the Hoover Met or Finley Center, Brock’s Gap is right next door. While they don’t have a kitchen they do offer up food trucks. You can follow their Facebook page for a schedule. They also host lots of events, adults (and kids)
Hi Wire Brewing
2901 4th Ave South

A mix of gameroom and great outdoor vibes, we love this newer to Birmingham brewery. Located downtown near Pepperplace it would make a great Saturday add-on to your Farmer’s Market run. The inside has fun games and great wall art, and the outdoor patio is great for taking in a great spring afternoon. No kitchen but they do feature food trucks. Visit their facebook page for events and scheduling.
Ferus Artisan Ales
101 Beech Street | Trussville

Enjoy a local IPA and fresh air at the outside pavilion at Ferus Artisan Ales, the anchor establishment of Trussville’s new entertainment district. Drink a flavored stout at the outside bar or take it to a picnic table while you watch the kids play tag on the green space. Grab some chef-curated eats from the full-menu restaurant including a “cub” menu with a junior smash burger, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese. Finish up with a family-shareable s’mores dip for dessert. Watch sports on the jumbo screen or catch a live concert on the pavilion stage. Pets on leashes are allowed in the outdoor area so bring your furry family members too!
Oversoul Brewing
4161 Helena Rd | Helena

Reader and Friend recommended, this brewery is located in the heart of Helena and is family and pet friendly! Great patio and family friendly events like Harry potter trivia, and live music. Follow their Facebook for all the happenings
Back 40 Beer Company
3201 1st Ave North | Birmingham

We love the feel of sitting on our back porch rocking in our rocking chair while watching the kids run around the backyard and that’s exactly the vibe you get at Back 40. Great food from the Back 40 kitchen (griddle dog, YUMM-O)(kids menu available!) up to 25 beers on tap and plenty of space for the kids to run or play corn hole. Four legged furry kids are most welcome.
Monday Night Brewing
14 12th Street South | Birmingham

While they don’t have a big yard for running around, they do have a pretty cool space that we think kids will dig… What kid doesn’t love dinosaurs and a big Connect4 game they can play on a patio? Monday Night offers up a tasty Mexican menu WITH kids options… Score! Also watch for the occasional kid friendly event, like pumpkin carving in the fall!
Ghost Train Brewing
3501 1st Ave South | Birmingham

Ghost Train is complete with a backyard and patio you’re never going to want to leave! Hammocks for lounging, and plenty of space to twirl in the grassy yard that connects to the Hugh Kaul Trail where you can watch the bikers and walkers as they pass.
Avondale Brewing
201 41st Street South | Birmingham
One of the OG Breweries in the Magic City, Avondale never disappoints. What’s not to love about a confined grassy area where the tiny humans can let loose? Home to lots of great live music, delicious brews, food trucks and fun events.
Keep in mind that most of our local breweries offer up a family friendly atmosphere, these are just a few of the spots we frequent, do you love one we didn’t mention? Share in the comments so we can be sure to check them out too!
