Summer is here and that means that we’ll be spending more time in the sun and, as Moms we know how important it is to protect our children’s skin but don’t neglect your own! We reached out to Callie Hincy, founder of Sussie Skin (remember the amazing eye cream in our Birthday Swag Bags??) and she shared some tips and information on taking care of your skin and what products work best! I personally am addicted to the eye cream and the serum and have been using them for a little over a month and my skin is so clear!
1. Sunscreen – We all know to wear sunscreen but it is important to choose one that contains Zinc Oxide or Titanium Oxide with an SPF of 15 or higher. All children under 6 months of age should be kept out of direct sunlight. Avoid sunscreens that contain parabens, PABA, benzophenone, oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, padimate O and homosalate. Sussie Products contain NO parabens, animal products or animal bi-products.
2. Hydrate – it is important with long hours in the sun that your skin and your body get plenty of liquids. Sussie “Toucha Love” eye cream is a great way to re-hydrate around the eyes and can be applied all over the face as a daytime moisturizer. To help with sunburn, place in the refrigerator a few minutes before using.
3. Exfoliate – Your skin sheds skin cells at an amazing rate all day every day. The only way to get truly glowing skin is to exfoliate your face and your body. For the face, Sussie “Take It Off” Glycolic Exfoliator is a great way to exfoliate dead skin and reveal newer younger looking skin. The 7.5% glycolic is just shy of that in a mild chemical peel and needs to be used with a good moisturizer such as Sussie “Drop Dead Gorgeous” skin repair cream
4. Check your Vitamin D – if you are Vitamin D deficient, you are more likely to be to be susceptible to sun damage. Vitamin D is easy to supplement if you are low. You can buy Vitamin D over the counter, I personally prefer D3 Vitamin D.
5. Wear Lip Balm-Lips are susceptible to skin cancer too so be sure and wear a lip balm that has an SPF of 15 or greater.
6. Prevent Rosacea– This common skin condition can be exacerbated by heat, causing your face to swell, get red, and break out in little pimples. If you’re prone to rosacea, seek refuge in air-conditioning, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothes, and keep cool by taking cold showers, misting yourself with a spray bottle, and drinking plenty of cold water. Sussie products that help with Rosacea are “Ooo La La” Toner which contains Witch Hazel a natural ingredient that evens skin tone and eliminates inflammation. Also good for Rosacea, “Take It Off” Glycolic Exfoliating Wash.
I founded Sussie Skin after working for years in the fashion/beauty industry for national titles such as JANE Magazine, InStyle Magazine and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. I have always been an avid consumer of skin care/cosmetic products and after years of living on the West Coast, I re-located back to Alabama where I have worked in the aesthetic industry calling on members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons all over the U.S. for the last several years. Through my travels calling on members of the ASPS, I am constantly inundated with the latest and greatest skin care technology and products hitting the market. After working in the aesthetic industry and sampling nearly every product on the market, I came across a lab making what I believe are the best formulas in the business and decided to start my own line. My goal with Sussie products is to treat consumers to the best science in skin care in the form of a playful, indulgent brand.
