Red Mountain Park Opens Sensory Friendly Trail

The Butler Snow Sensory Friendly Trail at Red Mountain Park is now open!

Funds for this trail were generously contributed by Butler Snow Foundation. This sensory trail is designed for children and adults with developmental differences who have a curiosity for our natural world. The trail was also designed with people who have low vision and/or low hearing in mind.

This trail is .14 miles long and located near the entrance of the Park along the BMRR South Trail. The Butler Snow Sensory Trail includes 14 activities, a comfort zone, a pergola with swinging benches and sensory bags that will be available for check out at the Park’s Welcome Station.  The bags contain items such as ear plugs, sunglasses and fidget toys.  For friends who use wheelchairs, the sensory trail was designed to be accessed with the Park’s off-road Nomad wheelchair, available by reservation, at (205) 913-7899, at no cost.  Red Mountain Park is excited to take this first step toward welcoming all of our community and becoming a more inclusive Park!
