Patience: Honesty and Positive Reinforcement

Sometimes, being honest with ourselves is the hardest part. If your child is misbehaving or not listening, honestly ask yourself if you were ignoring them or their needs? It’s not always their behavior that causes the problem. This one happens to me a lot when I’m on my computer working. I tell them to stop, but they don’t. They know that I’m absorbed in the computer, so they tune me out. If I get up, talk to them, and redirect them, they actually listen.

Use a lot of positive reinforcement. Positive is the opposite of negative, which is what happens when you lose your temper. Kids don’t like it when we lose our temper with them, so show them what the other option is.
