SUMMARY:December Support Meeting: The Family-Centered Cesarean
DESCRIPTION:The family-centered or “gentle” cesarean is a mother-centered approach to surgical birth that incorporates some of the bonding aspects of a physiological birth into the cesarean procedure. This approach has several benefits for both mom and baby and can often provide a more empowering and satisfying birth experience for parents. \nWhether you’re planning for a c-section or hoping to avoid one\, it’s important that you know and prepare for ALL your options! Join us for our December meeting as we discuss the different options for a family-centered cesarean\, hear from mothers who have had one\, and talk about how you can make sure to include this approach in your own birth plan (whether that’s your Plan A or Plan B!) \nWe will also designate a time for birth story sharing and additional support. \nPartners and support people are welcome. Due to space limitations\, babies in arms only\, please! Our monthly support meetings are always FREE. For more information about our ICAN chapter\, please check out our Facebook page.

SUMMARY:November Support Meeting: Practicing Self-Compassion after a Difficult Birth

(Spoiler alert: you’re going to be reminded that you that you ARE most definitely worthy of compassion and kindness!!) \nPartners and support people are welcome. Due to space limitations\, babies in arms only\, please! Our monthly support meetings are always FREE. For more information about our ICAN chapter\, please check out our Facebook page.

SUMMARY:October Support Meeting: Accreta Awareness & Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our October support meeting as we participate in Accreta Awareness Month. Placenta accreta is a serious condition in which the placenta attaches too deeply into the wall of the uterus\, resulting in complications. The greatest risk factor for accreta is a previous uterine scar\, and the risk for developing placenta accreta increases with each subsequent repeat C-section. \nFor the educational portion of our meeting\, we will present a general overview of this high-risk condition\, as well as the reasons behind its increasing prevalence. \nWe are also very honored to have Melany Rogers as a guest speaker for this meeting! Melany is a local mom of three and will be sharing her incredible story of survival after a diagnosis of placenta accreta + placenta previa with her third child. Melany uses her own story to spread awareness about placenta accreta and to promote blood donation in our community. Please come listen to her story- it’s so important to hear! \nWe will also designate a time for birth story sharing and additional support. Partners\, support people\, and kids welcome. Due to the somewhat serious nature of this month’s meeting topic\, however\, we ask that you use your own discretion as a parent in whether or not you want your child to attend this particular meeting. \nOur monthly support meetings are always free. For more information about our ICAN chapter\, please check out our Facebook page.
