SUMMARY:Storybook 5K and Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:The 3rd annual Storybook 5K and Fun Run\, hosted by the Junior Board of the Vestavia Hills Library Foundation\, is a fundraiser for the Children’s Department of the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest.  The 5K will begin at 8:00 am with the 2 Mile Run  beginning at 8:10 am and the One Mile Fun Run following at 9:00 am.   Official chip timing is available for 5K and 2 Mile Run participants.  This all ages event will be fun for the entire family as well as all members of our community and the greater Birmingham area. In addition to the 5K race\, 2 mile run\, and Fun Run\, there will be live music\, bounce house and slide\, storybook characters\, ballet dancers in costume\, face painting and complimentary food and drinks!  New this year\, run or walk with your four-legged family members by choosing the Run\, Walk\, or Wag option for an additional $5 per dog! Participating dogs must be leashed at all times. Packet pick-up will be at Vestavia Hills City Hall on Friday\, October 26 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Register by October 15 to receive an event t-shirt!

Adults & kids 2 and under are free. \nThe annual fundraiser will be held on the school grounds and will offer family-friendly entertainment\, food\, activities\, and crafts. \nAttendees can enjoy inflatable structures\, seasonal crafts\, face painting\, and other fun activities such as cake\, candy\, and soda walks. Guests can also check out a pumpkin patch and a hay ride. The event will feature performances by the Blue Bird Choir and the OMES Cheer Squad. \nA variety of treats will be available for purchase including Marco’s Pizza and a $7 Chick-Fil-A lunch combo. Pandy’s Food Truck will feature funnel cakes and fried Oreos. Steel City Pops and Kona Ice will be on hand for tasty frozen treats. Local vendors will be on site selling crafts and other items. \nThe event will feature college football games on large screen TVs thanks to Direct TV\, so that fans won’t have to miss out on watching game day events. \nAs the school’s largest annual fundraiser\, the Fall Fun Festival includes a silent auction\, with the ability to view auction items online and make advance bidding. \nAll proceeds from the fall fun fest are dedicated to the benefit of the students. DESCRIPTION:As part of our ongoing efforts to provide inclusive opportunities to all members of the community\, the Education Department at the Birmingham Zoo and KultureCity are excited to announce our new Special Saturdays program. Special Saturdays is a series of zoo-based learning experiences for children and adolescents with cognitive or physical disabilities whose opportunities for engagement in community programs might otherwise be limited. Caregivers must attend all classes with participants to provide behavioral support and meet child-specific needs. This program is designed with the unique learning needs of this population in mind. Using evidence-based teaching and sensory strategies\, we hope to provide a fun and engaging educational experience that will benefit all participants. \nClasses are held the second Saturday of each month from 10am-11am and 2:30-3:30pm for students age 8 and up. \nThere is no charge for the Special Saturdays program. Space is limited to 10 students per class. Caregivers must attend all classes with participants to provide behavioral support and meet child-specific needs.

SUMMARY:Alabama Butterbean Festival
DESCRIPTION:One of the largest festivals in the Southeast\, the Alabama Butterbean Festival rounds up country cooks\, families\, and die-hard fans of butterbeans for a fun-filled weekend including 12-hours of live music\, carnival rides\, food\, petting zoos\, pony rides\, and more. The free festival also features the Guinness world record holding butterbean pot. The pot earned the record in 2010 for the largest pot of baked beans at over 1\,010 gallons. The festival’s official mascot\, Bucky Butterbean\, will also be at the festival posing for pictures and greeting attendees. The small-town charm of Pinson’s Main Street will be packed with more than 150 arts and crafts vendors and various traditional and non-traditional fair food vendors.
